“And now, dear lady,
I am not writing you a new command
but one we have had from the beginning.
I ask that we love one another.
And this is love:
that we walk in obedience to his commands.
As you have heard from the beginning,
his command is that you walk in love.
I say this because many deceivers,
who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ
as coming in the flesh,
have gone out into the world.
Any such person is the deceiver
and the antichrist.
Watch out that you do not lose
what we have worked for,
but that you may be rewarded fully.
Anyone who runs ahead
and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God;
whoever continues in the teaching
has both the Father and the Son.
If anyone comes to you
and does not bring this teaching,
do not take them into your house
or welcome them.
Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.”

““If you love me, keep my commands.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another advocate
to help you and be with you forever—
the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him,
because it neither sees him nor knows him.
But you know him,
for he lives with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans;
I will come to you.
Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.
Because I live,
you also will live.
On that day you will realize
that I am in my Father,
and you are in me,
and I am in you.
Whoever has my commands
and keeps them is the one who loves me.
The one who loves me
will be loved by my Father,
and I too will love them
and show myself to them.””

“Who is the liar?
It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—
denying the Father and the Son.
No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son
has the Father also.
As for you, see that what you have heard
from the beginning remains in you.
If it does, you also will remain in the Son
and in the Father.
And this is what he promised us—
eternal life.”
